EdgePoint built and launched the highly innovative Mobile micro-health insurance product called Jamii. Jamii is a 100% paperless, 100% cashless and cheapest mobile micro-health Insurance product targeting the low income/ informal sector in Africa. Within our second month of commercial launch alone, we got 14,000 customers with a 130% month on month growth! Jamii in Tanzania market is launched in partnership with Vodacom Tanzania and The Jubilee Insurance of Tanzania Ltd, two giants in the telecom and insurance industries, these are hard to crack partnerships between a growing company (Edgepoint) and multinationals (Vodacom and Jubilee)! Jamii has been funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) including others. Early this year, Jamii recorded to raise about $1,000,000 in seed funding to help Jamii impact more lives in Africa. All successes recorded within one year alone! For the successes, Jamii has received multiple local and international awards for being highly innovative, social impact and growth potential. The awards includes, Ms. Makoi being named Top Most Innovative Woman in Technology Africa 206 by the World Economic Forum, Pioneer of the year 2015 & 2016 by Tanzania Young Professionals Awards (TAYPA), Hall of Fame: Young Achiever under 30 by Tanzania Leadership Awards 2016, Top Innovator Africa by Quartz, Digital Champion 2016 by Africa 4 Tech, including others. Her most recent innovation in WaterTek Africa, which she co-founded with Mr. Chris Rabi. WaterTek is Mobile pre-paid smart water billing system that transforms the water sector with convenient and simplest pre-paid billing. The system has proven to reduce water management expenses by over 40% and increase water bills collections by over 30%, this in turn makes water schemes profitable and sustainable, with increased re-investment in Africa societies. WaterTek is already serving over 5,000 people in its pilot stage and lined up to raise $500,000 from investors to take the project from pilot to commercial launch. WaterTek also is running a Mobile pre-paid gas meters pilot with ambitions to disrupt gas billing as well. Inhercareer journey,Ms.MakoipreviouslymanagedOnMobileandSpiceOperations in Tanzania which were VAS companies providing solutions for Vodacom, Tigo, Airtel and Zantel OPCOs. She then handled Airtel Tanzania/ Rwanda and Malawi’s Acquisitions and retention campaigns which involved in depth customer analysis and campaign management.
