CEO Today Africa Awards

SOUTH AFRICA 69 www.ceotodaymagazine.com CEO Today Africa Awards 2017 CEO INSIGHT PCM Consulting focuses on sustainability; offering holistic sustainable water, energy and waste solutions. The vision in the establishment of the company and the selective approach in the appointment of people, resources, alignment with suppliers and contracting with clients, is one shared by the team of the intent and commitment in adding value and making a difference in an economy in need of such support. PCM was established in 2008, with a core business focus on project development through an outsourced hourly rate consulting model. It was only towards the end of August 2015 when PCM’s business model transformed to its now turnkey project execution model. Our objective for the next 25 years is to focus on green initiatives and drive renewables, moving ahead to a more sustainable South Africa. We have decided to concentrate on solar, water, waste and facilities management. These now make up 85 percent of our business focus with the ability to provide micro grid solutions, some of these projects being in detailed design phase and some in implementation. In the last decade, South Africans have experienced load-shedding (a term used to describe the interruption of electricity supply to domestic or commercial users to avoid excessive load on the generating power plant) and more recently, water restrictions have started to apply with some areas in the country experiencing severe drought. Both instances have had a massively negative impact on the economy and ability by many to work and operate. The uncertain supply of natural resources and energy has given room for a private supplier complying with government legislation and regulatory standards to provide an end-to-end service of this nature. With the existing energy and water resource challenges facing our country, we endeavor to play a key role in providing ABOUT JANN PRINSLOO Following over a decade of project management experience on mega-project scale in the mining and construction industry, Jann Prinsloo started conceptualizing the possibility of creating a solution to an identified gap in the South African energy and water markets. Witnessing the short supply of electricity and dwindling water resources across the country, he embarked on the journey of creating green energy and sustainable water solutions. Almost two years later, the creation of a ‘private utility’ supporting the commercial and private sector with energy and water resources beyond the provisions of the local municipalities seems to be closer to fruition than hoped. Jann’s exemplary performance has been recognized in his notable achievements in career history to date, having been nominated in the Mintails and Exxaro project excellence awards, implementing mega projects across the mining and construction sector, implementing the biggest discard spreader in Southern Africa, the implementation of the smallest crawler in the world with the highest lifting capacity and more recently, the establishment of PCM Group of Companies, its team members, client base and project excellence. In 2016, PCM successfully completed the first modular waste-water to potable water plant in South Africa, which recovers between 65 and 70 percent of the facilities water throughput. This is a massive turn around in terms of saving water and is the most sustainable water saving initiative one can utilize. Since June 2016, the client base has doubled and the industries have spread from mining and private education facilities to large scale healthcare groups and financial services. Bringing expertise from the energy, engineering and construction environments, to form a small, but hand selected team of individuals together to drive PCM to the next level of the renewable landscape in South Africa. “In the last decade, South Africans have experienced load- shedding and more recently, water restrictions have started to apply with some areas in the country experiencing severe drought.”
