The data was received from all of the tributaries of both the Luangwa and Kafue Rivers (Lusaka Province). • Headed the team collecting the data consisting of a hydrologist, one senior engineering assistant and two engineering assistants. Data was collected during these hydrological studies, using the propeller current meter. The ultimate aim of the data collection was to develop rating curves of rivers, record data for peak, mean and minimum flows • Undertaking timely preparation of technical reports in surface water Research and Monitoring in order to facilitate planning and decision-making. The technical reports were mainly used for water provision such as: - Reservoir modelling (design of dam/reservoir capacity) - Sizing of the spillway (design of spillway capacity) - The potential of surface water resources in the province - To assist theWater Board tomake timely decisions as far as water apportionment for various users was concerned • Provided timely technical support to field officers in order to facilitate effective implementation of programs. This technical support included flow velocities and discharge, especially in terms of channel cross-sections; channel depth and channel width as well as channel bed characteristics, i.e. smooth river beds as opposed to rough beds, etc • Undertook timely analysis of data on surface water in order to determine quantity and resource availability • Undertook design of networks to establish the number of gauging stations that were to be installed to ensure the continuous monitoring assessment of surface water resources in order to determine its availability.
