www.ceotodaymagazine.com CEO Today Africa Awards 2017 KENYA 19 VIMAL RABADIA CEO of Kisumu Concrete Products Ltd (KCP) Vimal Rabadia, is the CEO of Kisumu Concrete Products Ltd (KCP), situated in Western Kenya, where the company has its head offices, since 1978. The business was founded by Late grandfather – Karsan Ramji Rabadia, later joined by his two sons Late Jadavji and Lalji Rabadia. Kisumu Concrete has been in operations for over 40 years and had managed to expand its operations within the wide Western Kenya market. The company has also diversified into manufacturing of high quality wide range of concrete products used in the construction industry. Vimal, joined the business in 2010, after graduating from Brunel University in UK, in Finance and Accounting. With great support and motivation from his father – Mr. Lalji Rabadia, now the Chairman of the company, the company invested in several state-of the art manufacturing plants, increasing capacity by four times. Today, the company is the single largest producer of aggregates, concrete blocks, paving blocks, concrete precast, roofing tiles etc. Rabadia was born and raised in Kisumu where he attended school until he went to the UK for his University education. He runs the company together with his dad and 3 brothers. Rabadia is not your typical youngster where his peers are spending evening and weekends having fun and travelling, he works 7 days a week and the responsibility of being in charge of the company has matured him fast. I am thankful to my father, who believed in my vision and ability to run the business at a very young age of 21 years, when I joined the business. Over the years in business, I have learnt how to struggle and grow strong, overcome difficulties and face challenges with positivity. All thanks to my Dad!! When I went to study in the UK it was very clear that I was to come back and join the family business. It’s something I looked forward to and a passion of being an Entrepreneur, and expanding the family business. Rabadia values his father’s advice and seeks him out whenever he can. The team at KCP has always been at the fore front in embracing and adopting new manufacturing technologies. The company www.kcpquarry.com has recently invested in state of the art concrete precast manufacturingplant from Italy, oneof its kind in Kenya, producing volume, high quality concrete products. The company is also the only player in supplying Ready Mix Concrete in the Western Region. KCP takes quality as top priority, and has its own, in house fully established concrete laboratory where manufactured products are tested on a daily basis to ensure conformity according to Kenyan Standards. KCP currently employs over 300 employees, providing livelihood to over 1500 persons. The company is also actively involved in CSR activities, and has managed to build schools, clinics, and roads for the local community. The company is also ISO 9001:2008 certified, which continuously improves productivity, safety and effectiveness in the business. The company recently acquired equity investment in to the business, which makes KCP the only family business in Western Kenya to attract equity investment. With this new partnership, KCP is looking to expand the business both in Kenya and regionally. The partnership will also see improved governance in the business, increased pace of growth, and build a sustainable business that will be here to continue serving our customers with cutting edge products and services in the long term. The equity investment comes at a point where the Kenyan economy is growing, and the demand for construction materials is increasing. The company plan to add more capacity to meet the growing demand.
